You are cordially invited to participate in the Seminar on startups jointly organized by the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (ECC), and Cyberport.

The event aims to facilitate a dialogue between Hong Kong and Europe about the startup ecosystem and to exchange experiences supporting the startup development (Hong Kong and EU). Our experienced panelists will set the scene by sharing success stories about Asian startups in EU and European startups in HK.

Speakers (to be updated):

Dr. Antti Saarnio, Jolla, has done a long career as entrepreneur and strategist. He has founded several start-ups and raised 100MUSD financing to those companies. One the start-ups Antti co-founded is mobile operating system company Jolla, which in 2011 continued Nokia’s MeeGo operating system work and created Sailfish OS.

Antti is also building an accelerator program focusing on Fintech and Blockchain technologies and bridging Scandinavian and Asian know-how.

 

Ms. Cat Purvis, Exicon, has been in the mobile and internet space for over 15 years, for companies big and small, all over the world - from China to Europe to the US. She has been customer, supplier and broker for an estimated USD400M of development deals which has given her a 360view of the mobile space. Her career started in operations in a variety of different industries (Chemical, F&B, Amusement parks). She has also built a number of other companies in the technology space - from an Ad network, Developer Agency and Mobile magazine to a Email marketing company, API management platform and a Mobile consulting firm.

Excion is a platform built to help companies manage the complexity of mobile. Exicon has customers with only 1 app all the way up to customers with portfolios of nearly 400.  The company was up in Hong Kong to leverage Asia's mobile first mentality but have big clients in China, Europe and the US.

 

Dr. David Williams, ADMOJO, is the founder and lead digital strategist of AsiaDigitalMojo and Visiting Professor at the School of Design of Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology and has 15 years of experience in commercial digital experience innovation. David speaks 5 languages and has lived or worked in over 20 countries. He also has teaching and commercial relationships with 10 universities around Asia and Europe. David also works with education-related NGOs and Social Businesses to deliver social change through creativity.

In 2009 David founded AsiaDigitalMojo. This agency defines communication strategies and applies interactive experiences to digital marketing, branding and experiential retail.

 

 Mr. Ernest Lo, HKIOTA, Future Impact Lab Limited, has reviously worked as Chief Representative of CTTC HK Branch, and Croucher Fellow at Stanford University. In 2015, Ernest started his own business with like-minds from Google, HP, and Dell, using Internet of Things, Big Data, and Design to solve commercial, social, and humanity issues. Ongoing projects include smart farm in Guizhou and data analytics for China Open (tennis).

 

Ms. Hilary Szymujko, Brinc. Prior to Brinc Hilary was Head of blueprint, a Swire tech accelerator and co-working space where she focused on running the accelerator program and looking after all things startups, mentors and investors. Prior to joining blueprint, she worked in London as Investment Manager at Seedcamp, a leading pre-seed and seed stage fund, where she managed the deal processes for fund’s portfolio companies.

Brinc is an ultra hands-on hardware accelerator that supports entrepreneurs looking to unlock the world’s data through connected solutions. Brinc offers a comprehensive program tailored for hardware startups looking for speed, access and the know-how to build successful companies. With Brinc, founders get access to resources in Hong Kong and Shenzhen with a proven approach that de-risks and accelerates the product development process. Brinc startups get the best of both worlds: manufacturing in China, access to global markets, all while having a team based in Hong Kong.

 

Ms. Karen Farzam, W Hub, has worked 6 years in Tokyo as JP Morgan exotic equity derivatives trader. After moving to Hong Kong she worked as a software engineer for a IoT Startup before co-founding W Hub. She is also immersed in the Tech Startup Scene as a Front End Web Development instructor at General Assembly, a mentor for several accelerator programs, organizer of Startup Weekend, lead mentor at Startup Next, and co-founder of Women Who Code HK. Karen has a double degree engineering diploma and Master in Finance International from HEC Paris.

Mr. Manav Gupta, BrincHaving spent the past decade to developing tech and startup ecosystems in China, Manav is familiar with the hurdles hardware companies face in getting products that drive deep consumer engagement to market. Prior to Brinc, Manav was CEO and co-founder of FabriQate, an award-winning mobile innovation company based in London.

Ms. Piia Kuosmanen, Slush Shanghai, is the COO for the Shanghai event for the Finnish startup event Slush. Before that, she has gained broad experience in various NGOs, for example by acting as a president of the National Union of University Students in Finland representing 138 000 members in 17 universities.

Slush Shanghai will be organized on October 31 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. The one-day main conference will bring together the top Chinese and international startups, investors, executives and media from around the world. Slush Shanghai is built by a dedicated community of entrepreneurs, investors, students, and event professionals.

 

Dr. Toa Charm, is the Chief Public Mission Officer (“CPMO”) of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited. He helps develop the company's strategic direction and drives Cyberport's public mission-related programs. Before Dr. Charm joined Cyberport, he held senior management and consulting positions from leading multinational and Chinese companies in Asia Pacific in the past 25 years. Dr Charm holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree, a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Cyberport is a creative digital cluster with over 700 community members in Pok Fu Lam. It is managed by Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited which is wholly owned by the Hong Kong SAR Government. Cyberport's public mission-related programs share the goal of inspiring the next generation, nurturing entrepreneurial spirit and helping local start-ups go global.

  • Entrance to the seminar is free of charge on at first come first serve basis and pre-registration is required. Your registration is only confirmed when you receive a confirmation letter from us
  • Participants are expected to fund their own travel, hotel accommodation, visit visa, transportation or any other charges
  • Cancellations must be made in writing by September 6th 2016, 5:00pm
  • When Typhoon 8 (or above) or Black Rainstorm Signal is hoisted, all events will be cancelled
